This workshop will discuss principles of the talking circle and play therapy to the development of therapeutic communication games for working with children and adolescents. Three case vignettes will illustrate the development of specific activities and games designed to meet individual needs that emerged in the context of child centered art therapy. The presentation will focus on the importance of developing an emotional vocabulary, reciprocity, storytelling, listening, problem solving and assertiveness. There will be a focus on role of the therapist in creating an environment of acceptance, modeling self-reflection, and witnessing.

Monica Carpendale is the founder and executive director of the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute. She has over 25 years of art therapy experience and is a national and international presenter, author of several books and DVD’s on art therapy.
